Israel eases ban on building materials for Gaza

JERUSALEM (AP) ? Israel has started allowing long-banned building materials into the Gaza Strip, its first key concession to the territory's Hamas rulers under a cease-fire that ended eight days of intense fighting last month, the military said Monday.

Israel offered an added incentive to the Islamic militant Hamas as well, with the military saying shipments will continue and a 5-year-old blockade of the Palestinian territory may be eased even further if the border remains quiet.

"Now we're talking about a permanent easing," said military spokesman Maj. Guy Inbar. He said 20 truckloads a day could enter Gaza depending on demand and other concessions may follow.

"The longer the calm persists, the more we'll weigh additional easings of restrictions that will benefit the private sector," he said.

A Hamas official described the quantity sent so far as "cosmetic" and Gaza economists said it would take years of round-the-clock shipments to even make a dent in the gap left by the five years of blockade.

Israel imposed a wide-ranging land and naval embargo on Gaza after the Islamic militant Hamas took over Gaza by force in 2007. Although it eased the land embargo in 2010, building materials such as cement, gravel and metal rods continued to be largely banned because Israel claimed militants could use them to make fortifications and weapons.

There had been limited exceptions. Israel last week authorized the entry of 60 trucks and buses for the first time since Hamas' 2007 Gaza takeover, though there are conflicting reports on whether vehicles have actually gone through.

The military said it began allowing shipments of gravel to Gaza's private sector on Sunday because the Israeli attacks on Hamas in November had stopped near-daily rocket attacks from Israel.

After the November hostilities, Israel and Hamas began indirect, Egyptian-brokered talks over new border arrangements.

Hamas still wants Israel to lift the remainder of the embargo, including a naval blockade still in place. In return, Israel demands an end to arms smuggling into Gaza.

Gazans also want another major concession from Israel, the lifting of a near-ban on exports from the impoverished territory. Exports, especially to the West Bank, the Palestinian territory on the opposite side of Israel, once formed the backbone of Gaza's economy. The West Bank and Gaza have separate, rival governments.

The army spokesman said exports might be expanded "depending on the continuation of the calm."

Critics contend the export ban punishes ordinary Gazans instead of pressuring Hamas, hurting four in five Gaza factories and contributing heavily to an unemployment rate of about one-third of the workforce. Eighty percent of Gaza's 1.6 million people rely on U.N. handouts.

Hundreds of smuggling tunnels under the Gaza-Egypt border gave Gazans a conduit for goods ? and weapons ? while the embargo remained intact.

Israel lifted its restrictions on consumer goods entering Gaza over land after a deadly Israeli naval raid on a blockade-busting flotilla in 2010 drew international attention to the Israeli blockade. But the blockade on construction materials remained in place, save for shipments used to build U.N. schools and a pilot project of shipments to the private sector a year ago.

"The Israelis promised to undertake further measures to alleviate the difficult economic situation in Gaza as a result of the calm," said Palestinian crossing official Raed Fattouh in Gaza, confirming that the Israelis had agreed to send in 20 trucks of gravel daily, five days a week. "This move had been expected as part of the deal."

Israel has not eased its naval blockade of the territory, which it says is imperative to keep weapons from being smuggled into Gaza by sea.

Egypt, which had joined the Israeli blockade, similarly eased its own restrictions on Saturday, allowing in 1,400 tons of gravel paid for by Qatar. The oil-rich emirate recently pledged $425 million to build housing, schools, a hospital and roads in Gaza as part of its attempt to build its influence in Palestinian politics and its power in the region, at the expense of regional rival Iran, Hamas' longtime patron.

Shipments from Egypt are expected to be ramped up to 4,000 tons daily, said Yassir al Shanti, Gaza's deputy minister of housing and public works. He estimated Gaza needs up to 3 million tons of gravel to build roads and that the Qatar-funded projects need more than 1 million tons.

The shipments from Egypt were launched following consultation with Israeli officials, who were in Cairo Thursday to discuss the cease-fire and other matters, an Egyptian official said last week.

Under former President Hosni Mubarak, Israel's longtime ally, Egypt had poor relations with Hamas, and teamed up with Israel to blockade Gaza. Egypt's new president, Mohammed Morsi, comes from Hamas' parent group, the Muslim Brotherhood, and has vowed not to abandon the Palestinians. But he is moving cautiously, in part to avoid alienating Cairo's biggest patron, the United States.

Palestinian economist Mouin Rajab said the new shipments would go only a small way to meet the needs Gaza has accumulated throughout five and a half years of blockade, during which time Hamas and Israel warred twice.

"Gaza needs more than what Israel has allowed and what Egypt has promised to allow. We are talking about six years of blockade, no real economy and no projects in addition to what Gaza lost during two wars in 2009 and 2012," Rajab said.

A Hamas government official in Gaza said there was still a long way to go.

"This amount which has been sent by the Israelis still is cosmetic," he said. "Israel, according to the understanding, should allow more building materials into Gaza as part of the understandings reached by Cairo. We are waiting and we told the Egyptians that."

He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the understandings.

Reconstruction since the 2009 fighting has been slow, in large part because of the blockades. To make up the shortage, a bustling smuggling industry through underground tunnels along the Egyptian border has sprung up. While prices for key construction goods have come down, they still remain expensive for the majority of Gaza's 1.6 million people, 80 percent of whom rely on U.N. handouts.

Israel and Hamas shun each other, so Egypt is mediating the new border arrangements. A Hamas official, speaking on condition of anonymity because he wasn't authorized to disclose confidential contacts, said a Hamas delegation arrived Sunday night in Cairo to meet with Egyptian security officials for a second round of talks on the border arrangements.

Argentina asks NY appeals court to block payouts for debt holdouts

Saturday, December 29, 2012

Argentina is urging a US appeals court to reverse an order requiring the country to pay $1.33 billion to creditors who did not participate in its two debt restructurings, a legal case that could have huge ramifications for global debt markets.

Lawyers for Argentina's government said in court papers filed late on Friday that a trial judge was "wrong to ignore the chorus of voices" who opposed his November order on payments to so-called "holdout" creditors.

Those payments, to a court-controlled escrow account, would threaten the service of $24 billion in restructured debt, Argentina's lawyers wrote in papers filed in the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New York.

"There is no authority permitting a US court to order a sovereign to bring its immune assets into the United States in order to 'turn over' or distribute them to its creditors," lawyers for the Argentine government said in the 69-page filing.

Lawyers representing Argentina confirmed that President Cristina Fern?ndez de Kirchner plans to send a bill to congress to allow a new debt swap under the same conditions it was done in 2010.

On Friday night, the US Government backed Argentina?s stance filed on the New York Court of appeals. ?By restricting the immunity that the properties of a foreign state possess excessively, the decision not only contradicts previous rulings by this court, but could could affect US foreign relations and jeopardize goods of the US Government,? the office of the US Attorney General

NOAA lists ringed and bearded ice seal populations under the Endangered Species Act

Dec. 30, 2012 ? NOAA Fisheries announced on December 21, in compliance with a court ordered deadline, its final listing decision for four subspecies of ringed seals and two distinct population segments (DPSs) of bearded seals under the Endangered Species Act. Specifically, in line with the proposal, NOAA will list as threatened the Beringia and Okhotsk DPSs of bearded seals and the Arctic, Okhotsk, and Baltic subspecies of ringed seals. The Ladoga subspecies of ringed seals will be listed as endangered. The species that exist in U.S. waters (Arctic ringed seals and the Beringia DPS of bearded seals) are already protected under the Marine Mammal Protection Act.

This science-based listing decision will not result in any immediate restrictions on human activities; however, Federal agencies that permit or fund projects that may affect a listed species must consult with NOAA Fisheries to ensure the existence of the species is not jeopardized. In addition, this listing will have no impact on the subsistence harvest of ice seals by Alaska Natives, a practice that is central to the traditional culture and nutrition in many Alaskan Native coastal communities.

"Our scientists undertook an extensive review of the best scientific and commercial data. They concluded that a significant decrease in sea ice is probable later this century and that these changes will likely cause these seal populations to decline," said Jon Kurland, protected resources director for NOAA Fisheries' Alaska region. "We look forward to working with the State of Alaska, our Alaska Native co-management partners, and the public as we work toward designating critical habitat for these seals."

NOAA will work with local, state and Native partners, as well as the public to help determine whether to propose critical habitat designations for Arctic ringed seals and the Beringia DPS of bearded seals. This decision will happen at a later date, after compiling significant additional scientific and economic data and public input. Earlier this year, the President directed that any future designations of critical habitat carefully consider all public comments on relevant science and economic impact, including those that suggest methods for minimizing regulatory burdens. Any potential future critical habitat designation will include a full analysis of economic impact, including impact on jobs, and will strive, to the extent permitted by law, to avoid unnecessary burdens and costs on states, tribes, localities, and the private sector.

Ringed and bearded seals depend on sea ice and snow to survive. After a comprehensive review of the best available science including climate models developed by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, NOAA has concluded that sea ice and snow cover are likely to further decrease in the foreseeable future resulting in population declines that threaten the survival of these seals.

Ringed seals nurse and protect their pups in snow caves, which are threatened by late ice formation in the fall, rain-on-snow events in the late winter, earlier break-up of spring ice, as well as decreasing snow depths, which are projected to be too shallow for snow cave formation by the end of the century. Both ringed seals and bearded seals rely on sea ice for extended periods during molting, and bearded seals live on sea ice during critical months for breeding, whelping, and nursing. Sea ice is projected to shrink both in extent and duration, with bearded seals finding inadequate ice even if they move north.

NOAA Fisheries proposed the listings in December 2010 and provided opportunities for public input through public comment periods and during public hearings held in Anchorage, Barrow, and Nome. In accordance with NOAA's Policy for Peer Review in ESA Activities, the agency also solicited comments from peer reviewers on each of the proposed rules. In December 2011, NOAA administratively extended the deadline for final listing determinations six months to June 2012 to allow for additional consideration of relevant science and information. In November 2012, the Alaska district court ordered NOAA to respond to a complaint about further delay by December 21, 2012.

The Endangered Species Act defines an endangered species as "any species which is in danger of extinction throughout all or a significant portion of its range." A threatened species is "any species which is likely to become an endangered species within the foreseeable future throughout all or a significant portion of its range."

The Endangered Species Act requires species listed as endangered to receive the full protection under the Act to prevent extinction, including a prohibition against "take," which includes harassing, harming, pursuing, wounding, killing, trapping, capturing, or collecting. These protections may also be established for threatened species to prevent them from becoming endangered, but NOAA does not propose pursuing such a rule at this time.

Huawei Ascend D2 reportedly spied while switched on, teases an upscale look

Huawei Ascend D2 reportedly spied while switched on

Huawei has already confirmed that we're going to see its extra-large Ascend D2 at CES, but that doesn't mean a sneak peek is unwelcome. ITHome is more than willing to sate our curiosity with a set of photos that purportedly show a fully functional version of the 5-inch smartphone. In a sense, we know what to expect from the software: the D2 appears to be using the same customized Android layer as the even larger Ascend Mate, just without that fifth column of icons. The shots do, however, suggest that Huawei is going for a design as premium-looking on the outside as it is high-powered on the inside. Not much else is known, but we'll likely understand Huawei's fuller ambitions in Las Vegas next month.

Senate Democratic leader warns U.S. going over "fiscal cliff"

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The top Democrat in the Senate warned on Thursday that the United States looks to be headed over the "fiscal cliff" of tax hikes and spending cuts that will start next week if squabbling politicians do not reach a deal.

Majority Leader Harry Reid told the Senate in a speech that "it looks like that is where we're headed.

He called on the Republicans who control the House of Representatives to prevent the worst of the fiscal shock by getting behind a Senate bill to extend existing tax cuts for all except those households earning more than $250,000 a year.

With the House not in session and the clock ticking toward the scheduled January start of tax increases and deep, automatic government spending cuts, Reid offered little hope.

"I don't know time-wise how it can happen now," he said.

Referring to the House run by Speaker John Boehner - the top Republican in Congress - Reid said, "It's being operated with a dictatorship of the speaker, not allowing a vast majority of the House of Representatives to get what they want."

Boehner's failed effort last week to push his own "fiscal cliff" solution through the House was a "debacle," Reid added. He also accused Boehner of delaying "fiscal cliff" action until after he seeks re-election as House speaker on January 3.

"John Boehner seems to care more about keeping his speakership than about keeping the nation on firm financial footing," Reid added.

Reid's pessimistic remarks sent world stocks, the euro and U.S. shares lower.

But Reid's comments may have been more an attempt to spur Republican rivals into action than a definitive prediction that "fiscal cliff" talks will fail.

President Barack Obama arrived back at the White House from his brief vacation in Hawaii to try to restart stalled negotiations with Congress.

Obama made phone calls to congressional leaders from both parties on Wednesday from Hawaii to try to revive the stalled talks to prevent the "fiscal cliff" scenario, which would worry world financial markets and could push the United States back into recession.

In addition, consumer confidence fell to a four-month low in December as the budget crisis sapped what had been a growing sense of optimism about the economy, a report released on Thursday showed.

"People are hearing about (the cliff) and it negatively impacts confidence and investor sentiment and even holiday sales," said Todd Schoenberger, managing partner at Landcolt Capital in New York.

The chances of a last-minute deal - at least one that would prevent tax hikes - remained uncertain, with Republicans and Democrats each insisting the other side move first amid continuing partisan gridlock.

The Senate, controlled by Democrats, was scheduled to meet later on Thursday but on matters unrelated to the "fiscal cliff."

REPUBLICAN CONFERENCE CALL

Boehner and other House Republican leaders, who say they are willing to take up a "fiscal cliff" measure only after the Senate acts on one, were to hold a conference call with Republican House members on Thursday.

The expectation for the call was that lawmakers would be told to get back to Washington within 48 hours to consider anything the Senate might pass.

Weather permitting, that would bring them to Washington with perhaps three days left before the deadline for action. Storms affecting the Midwest, the South and the Northeast played havoc with airline schedules.

The House and Senate passed bills months ago reflecting their own sharply divergent positions on the expiring low tax rates, which went into effect during the administration of Republican former President George W. Bush.

Democrats want to allow the tax cuts to expire on the wealthiest Americans. Republicans want to extend the tax cuts for everyone.

"This isn't a one party or one house problem. This is (that) leaders in both parties in all branches of the government are not willing to make the deal that they know they have to make. Everybody wants their stuff but doesn't want to give up what they don't want to give up," Republican U.S. Representative Steven LaTourette told CNN.

Congress has proven that it can act swiftly once an agreement is reached. Hope persisted that Republicans and Democrats might come up with a resolution before New Year's Day that could at least postpone the impact of the tax hikes and spending cuts while further discussions take place.

Another battle is just over the horizon in late January or early February over raising the debt ceiling, which puts a limit on the amount of money the U.S. government can borrow to pay its debts and can be raised only with the approval of Congress.

Republican leaders have said they will insist on more budget cuts as a condition of raising the ceiling. Without any action, the U.S. Treasury said on Wednesday the government is set to reach its $16.4 trillion debt ceiling on December 31.

The Treasury Department is to begin "extraordinary measures" to buy time. Many analysts believe the government can stave the default date off into late February.

Genetic sequencing breakthrough to aid treatment for congenital hyperinsulinism

Dec. 27, 2012 ? Congenital hyperinsulinism is a genetic condition where a baby's pancreas secretes too much insulin. It affects approximately one in 50,000 live births and in severe cases requires the surgical removal of all or part of the pancreas.

Researchers at the University of Exeter Medical School are the first in the world to utilise new genetic sequencing technology to sequence the entirety of a gene in order to identify mutations that cause hyperinsulinism. Previously, existing technology limited such sequencing to only part of the coding regions of the gene which meant that some mutations were missed.

Using new Illumina genetic sequencing technology, the research team led by Professor Sian Ellard has discovered novel mutations that cause hyperinsulinism. Their findings are published December 27 2012, on-line by The American Journal of Human Genetics.

The outcome will be that some infants born with hyperinsulinism will require fewer investigations, because the new technology means that for many only one genetic test will be required to determine the extent of the condition in each child. It also means that clinicians will have more information at their fingertips to inform them about how much of the pancreas needs to be removed.

Approximately 50 per cent of patients with congenital hyperinsulinism require surgery, and of those half require the entire pancreas to be removed. Removal of the entire pancreas increases the risk of diabetes later in life, but if left undiagnosed and untreated hyperinsulinism can result in irreparable brain damage. Symptoms range from shakiness and tiredness to seizure and coma.

Dr. Sarah Flanagan, Research Fellow in Molecular Genetics at the University of Exeter Medical School said: "The potential provided by this new technology is important and exciting, because it allows us to investigate genetic coding in its entirety. This means that investigators can identify mutations that sit at the heart of any number of conditions where before they might have been missed. This in turn results in better information for clinicians upon which they can base effective treatments and interventions for their patients."

U.S. suspends embassy operations in rebel-hit Central African Republic

For a moment there, we almost believed it: Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz's radical solution for the ongoing fiscal cliff nightmare, and maybe politics entirely, was going to work. Scrawling a vaguely political message on paper cups containing overpriced coffee would deliver us from partisan politics, from disagreement itself. We were going to Come Together? while consuming a Trenta vanilla soy half-caf latte?with extra chocolate drizzle.

Children, many ill, would be victims of Russia ban on U.S. adoption

MOSCOW (Reuters) - Family Christmas cards and smiling snapshots of children sent by their adoptive American parents fill Galina Sigayeva's office in Russia's second city St Petersburg.

Many of them were crippled by illness and in desperate need of medical care before her agency helped organise their adoption into U.S. families, she recalls.

Children's rights campaigners say children like these will suffer most if President Vladimir Putin approves a law barring American adoptions that has been rubber-stamped by Russian lawmakers. The act retaliates against a new U.S. law that will punish Russians accused of human rights violations.

Critics of the bill say Russian orphanages are woefully overcrowded and the fate of vulnerable children should not be used as a bargaining chip in a bilateral feud.

"These children are not even offered to foreigners until they get a certain number of (adoption) refusals from Russians," said Sigayeva, a neatly styled brunette who heads the New Hope Christian Services Adoption Agency.

"These are children with complicated diagnoses, really complicated. They are very ill children."

She smiled as she flipped through photos of children embraced by their adoptive parents, playing with family pets and enjoying presents and other trappings of holiday cheer.

"What surprises me is that here they all look so healthy, so fantastic, but you should see what they look like when they are taken from here," Sigayeva said.

"Some had to be carried to the border. We had a girl with hepatitis whom we helped from the emergency room."

Both sides in the heated debate surrounding the bill agree Russia's orphanage system is overwhelmed, riddled with corruption and most failing to place children in families.

More than 650,000 children are considered orphans in Russia - though some were rejected by their parents or taken from dysfunctional homes. Of that total, 110,000 lived in state institutions in 2011, according to the Ministry of Science and Education.

By contrast, in the United States - which has more than twice Russia's population - about 58,280 children were living in group homes and institutions last year, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Adoptions by Russian families remain modest, with some 7,400 adoptions in 2011 compared with 3,400 adoptions of Russian children by families abroad.

Russian politicians say it is an embarrassment that the country cannot care for its own, and supporters of the measure argue it will help stimulate reform and domestic adoptions.

"Foreign adoption is a result of the state and society's lack of attention to orphans ... It is, if you will, a result of our indifference," Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev told officials at a ruling party congress last week.

American families adopt more Russian children - 956 last year - than those of any other country. Of the children adopted by Americans in 2011, 9 percent - or 89 - were disabled, according to official Russian figures.

Opponents of the legislation, who include senior officials such as Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, say politicking should not deprive orphans of this chance at better life.

"Russia is not able to provide for all its orphans," Boris Altshuler, director of the Moscow-based Rights of the Child advocacy group, said. "Although 1,000 is a small fraction - it was a help."

Deputy Prime Minister Olga Golodets has said the ban would violate international treaties on child rights, and the Kremlin's own human rights council called it unconstitutional.

"AMERICAN ROULETTE"

The ban responds to a U.S. law known as the Magnitsky Act, which punishes Russians suspected of being involved in the death in custody of anti-graft lawyer Sergei Magnitsky in 2009, and of other human rights violations, by barring them from entering the United States.

In a pointed echo of the Magnitsky Act, Russia's legislation is named the Dima Yakovlev law, after a Russian-born toddler who died of heat stroke after his American adoptive father left him locked in a sweltering car.

His death and that of 19 other Russian-born children in the hands of U.S. citizens in the last decade has helped drive support for the bill and for tougher adoption rules in a deal with the United States in June.

"It's American roulette," said Pavel Astakhov, Russia's Children's Rights Commissioner and a supporter of the ban.

"One handicapped girl from Russia got lucky. She was Jessica Long - a Paralympic champion. Another did not. She was Masha Allen ... who was raped by her paedophile adoptive father."

DISABLED CHILDREN

If Putin signs it into law, the ban will come into force on January 1, most immediately affecting the fate of children whose adoption is in the works.

The placement of 46 children with American families will be cancelled, Astakhov told the Interfax news agency on Wednesday.

"There is terrible irony in the fact that America's decision to speak out against human rights violations may cause the Russian government to deny many thousands of Russian orphans the possibility to grow up in loving, adoptive families," said Chuck Johnson, president of National Council For Adoption, a non-profit advocacy group based in Alexandria, Virginia.

Sigayeva, of the New Hope Christian Services Adoption Agency, said a six-month halt on American adoptions until a new bilateral deal entered force in November showed how it would aggravate problems in Russia's strained child-protection system.

"Hospitals were overwhelmed. There was no room in orphanages or hospitals for children whom their parents had rejected. So what's next then?" said Sigayeva, whose agency has helped place some 200 children in American families since 1992.

Advocates who work with disabled children say a reform proposal drafted by Astakhov ignores their plight. They say it calls for a reduction in the number of institutions caring for children with disabilities without explaining how they will find foster homes and medical care.

"No concrete measures are being suggested. Nothing exists but a lot of children's pain, which will only increase now," said Sergei Koloskov, a campaigner for children with Down's Syndrome.

"They are being left parentless in addition to being ill."

Freelance Blog Articles Succinctly Written | About Freelance

Freelance Blog Articles Succinctly Written

Many different blog articles will be fully expected to be written perfectly during your freelance writing career; in business, blog articles will definitely be in your repertoire as freelancing professionals upkeep many biz blogs around the world.? Businesses are relatively easy to write blog articles about, yet writing business blog articles will nearly prepare you for writing business plans since many of the information found in business plans will go into your blog article.? Below we?ve constructed some time-saving tips for writing a business blog article quickly, accurately and with excellent client satisfaction potential.

Focus On Outline

Your outline will becomes the springboard which houses the remaining ideas you?ll research and write into each section.? Therefore, once you?ve gotten the format down, you?ll breeze through the remaining parts.? The outline could potentially look like this:

  • Title of business niche / idea / company being explored
  • Introduction paragraph with key facts
  • Body which will house your research, opinion and facts which should check out
  • Closing paragraph containing the basic wrap-up of everything written
  • Final text area citing all sources (unless done via deep link)

This outline is loose, meaning that different freelance writing clientele will have variances in expectations.

Prepare For Research

Business content will have exhaustive research, and spending one full day gathering data, facts and figures of interest should already be in your repertoire.? You?ll want to jot down notes along the way, and make sure to keep your citations in order for writing your content.? Once you?ve gathered enough information, you can rough draft the first part and make sure you feel comfortable with your findings.

Corporate blog content needs special attention because the facts can easily be proven, or instantly disproved, costing money and traffic.? Therefore, when writing about something that physically exists, or existed, make sure every word you speak is factually provable.? Your rough draft could very well be written over and over several dozen times.? This is expected, and not abnormal; always make sure your final draft is well-polished and never consist of stolen verbiage since we?re all aware that copywriting is not copy my writing ? or, so we hope, right?

If you already know that you?ll need time for research and asking for help from friends, never begin writing or researching when the time has run short because you?ll end up writing too quickly and miss important facts within your content which the client was looking for.? Instead of waiting until the last minute, make sure you allow at least 1-2 days for perfect writing which includes taking ample breaks and allowing for revisions if necessary.? This is general rule of thumb unless writing SEO content.

Write Outline Immediately

The outline of your articles needs written immediately when it?s fresh in your mind; even if you set the remaining task down for several days, you still need to complete the ?skeleton? of your business content.? This will allow for quick remembrance of your writing topic after resting for several hours.? The outline needs to simply conform to what your teacher told you would be necessary, including making your headings with Roman numerals or attractive subheadings.? Never try to write the outline immediately when it?s known to be due as this will render abysmal results ? along with zero payment.

Articles business professionals will assign freelancing professionals never have set page limits; therefore, you may end up writing 25 pages, or simply 1.? Regardless of size, always leave ample time for deep line editing which means sentence-level checking for proper grammar, subject usage and punctuation.? If you feel editing may be too difficult, hire someone outside your circle who can view your finished goods with fresh eyes.? This step is vital in making the proper corrections before turning in to client for payment.

Always Remember

Having the best possible business blog articles means you?ll need to pour dozens of hours into writing the outline, perhaps several hours gathering business demographic information and perhaps another full hour or two writing your drafts.? Remember that all facts should be amply cited and factually correct since you could be under scrutiny for lying or misappropriating information about something which exists.? Finally, never steal any quotes without proper attribution, and never plagiarize other papers you may encounter online which is basically the freelance writing unwritten code of conduct.

(AP) ? Former Atlanta Braves star center fielder Andruw Jones was free on bond after being arrested in suburban Atlanta early Tuesday on a battery charge, according to jail records.

Around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday, police responded to a call for a domestic dispute between Jones and his wife in Duluth.

Gwinnett County Detention Center records say Jones was booked into the jail around 3:45 a.m. and was released on $2,400 bond by 11 a.m.

Once one of the premier players in the big leagues, Jones broke into the majors with the Atlanta Braves in 1996 and won 10 consecutive Gold Gloves from 1998-07 as their center fielder. He has 434 career home runs over the span of 17 seasons in the majors.

Jones earlier this month signed a $3.5 million, one-year contract with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan's Pacific League.

Eating asparagus may prevent a hangover, study suggests

Dec. 26, 2012 ? Drinking to ring in the New Year may leave many suffering with the dreaded hangover. According to a 2009 study in the Journal of Food Science, published by the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), the amino acids and minerals found in asparagus extract may alleviate alcohol hangover and protect liver cells against toxins.

Researchers at the Institute of Medical Science and Jeju National University in Korea analyzed the components of young asparagus shoots and leaves to compare their biochemical effects on human and rat liver cells. "The amino acid and mineral contents were found to be much higher in the leaves than the shoots," says lead researcher B.Y. Kim.

Chronic alcohol use causes oxidative stress on the liver as well as unpleasant physical effects associated with a hangover. "Cellular toxicities were significantly alleviated in response to treatment with the extracts of asparagus leaves and shoots," says Kim. "These results provide evidence of how the biological functions of asparagus can help alleviate alcohol hangover and protect liver cells."

Asparagus officinalis is a common vegetable that is widely consumed worldwide and has long been used as an herbal medicine due to its anticancer effects. It also has antifungal, anti-inflammatory and diuretic properties.

Thomas M. Kostigen: A Messiah Born Is Trouble

The end of the world as we know is being predicted by environmentalists, religious leaders and warmongers alike -- never mind followers of the Mayan calendar who believe Dec. 21 began a new world era.

From calendar dates to carbon emission calculations to character descriptions of a coming "savior," there may never be as much doomsayer data in our lifetime.

For Jews, the return to the "homeland" of Israel and the rebuilding of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem are the main signs the messianic era is upon us.

For Christians, it is significant for Jewish people to have a homeland, too, in End Times prophecy. As well, there will be famines, wars, and earthquakes. A single world ruler will arise and then Christ will fight the anti-Christ before Judgment Day.

For Muslims, a figure known as the Mahdi will appear and rule the world before the coming of the messiah. Then things play out much like the Christian version of Armageddon with "al-Mahdi" assisting the messiah in battle against the "false prophet," or anti-Christ, as Christians believe.

Take religion out of the equation and you still have environmentalists decreeing that earth cannot sustain life as we know it with more than 350 million particles per million of carbon dioxide floating around in the atmosphere. At current rates, we'll exceed 400ppm of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere by 2015.

Meanwhile, those who believe there is imminent world war see cataclysmic conditions in the Middle East (where religious prophecy centers), and predict nuclear Armageddon.

No matter religious or scientific End Times, the world is said to end in fire. And of all the signs that get things rolling toward those days of end, a new world leader, or messiah, being born is the biggest.

Merry Christmas.

Thomas M. Kostigen is a New York Times bestselling author. His novel, Golden Dawn, about the confluence of Iran's nuclear smuggling and End Times prophecy, is in bookstores now.

The Motor Report's Ten Automotive Video Faves Of 2012 | Reviews ...

So, you've finished your Christmas shopping - maybe with a little help from our gift guide - and now you're waiting for the big day to roll along.

As a reward for deftly avoiding a trip to the in-laws today, we?ve compiled 10 of our favourite manufacturer videos from 2012.

Here you'll find everything from electric vehicle technology triumph to racing accomplishment (or both), to unabashed tyre frying, automotive poetry and plain old automotive saliva triggering.

These clips are but a mere snippet of what we've seen this year, so if you can think of something that also rates a mention, feel free to mention it in the comments section below.

Ten Of The Best (in no particular order) From 2012

Pagani - ?The Beginnings?

For those who wonder where the celebrated Italian supercar manufacturer came from, Pagani has put together this five-part series exploring the brand's past.

The series touches on founder Horacio Pagani?s art and science philosophy, his early career with Lamborghini and development of his composite material expertise, through to the many iterations of Zonda and the current Huayra production models.

Automotive romance at its finest.

Audi R8 e-Tron - Production Electric Vehicle N?rburgring Record Lap

Now on Audi?s backburner, an R8 e-tron prototype set a new N?rbrugring Nordschleife lap time of 8:09.099 in June - with Audi claiming it as a new record for a pure-electric production model.

Driver Markus Winkelhock will have to scrub this boast from his list of achievements for the time being though, until the R8 e-tron reaches production - if ever.

Either way, Audi?s official video of the lap gives a great taste of what wind noise sounds like when not tainted by the sounds of a combustion engine...

Nissan Leaf Goodwood Hillclimb Record

One 2012 pure-electric speed record that officially stands though, is Nissan?s Goodwood Festival Of Speed Hillcclimb record set by a Leaf hatch - in reverse.

With its reverse speed limiter removed, the direct-drive Leaf hatch completed the 1.6km track in 1m37.02s at an average speed of 88.5km/h.

Proof that the British sense of humour is as good as ever.

Jaguar F-Type teasers

Jaguar has released a whole series of video clips this year for its new F-TYPE roadster.

Ranging from disguised prototype footage, to revealing the sounds of its supercharged V6 and V8 engines, to the upcoming Ridley Scott short film collaboration entitled ?Desire?, Jaguar is pulling out all the stops in marketing the new model.

The video shown here was used to reveal the F-Type in production form at September?s Paris Motor Show, but the rest can be seen via Jaguar?s Youtube channel.

Red Bull F1 Car On New York Streets

Red Bull Racing put together this video to promote the now-postponed Grand Prix of America Formula 1 race in New Jersey, but within sight of the famous New York skyline.

Former F1 driver David Coulthard drove the 2011 Championship-winning RB7 model around Liberty State Park, then through to New York City proper via the Lincoln Tunnel, before finishing with a lap of the streets set to form the Grand Prix of America circuit in 2014.

The Nissan Juke-R: Desert Nemesis

This big dollar Juke-R promo film follows GT Academy winner Lucas Ordonez through his competition in the Dubai 24 Hour race, before Ordonez is ?challenged? to a street race the following day.

This street race is set around the streets of Dubai, where the Juke-R battles a Ferrari 458, Lamborghini Gallardo, and Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG.

BMW M6 Gran Coupe Promo Vid

BMW?s promotional film for its recently revealed M6 Gran Coupe is entitled ?Beyond Status? - a clear reflection of the Gran Coupe?s sedan version of a coupe version of the 5 Series sedan?s genesis.

This doesn?t matter, as it looks just dandy, and arguably the finest bearer of BMW?s current design language.

BMW?s high-production-value launch video will help you to agree.

Ken Block?s Gymkhana FIVE

The fifth instalment of Ken Block?s Gymkhana series was filmed in the most ambitious locale to date; the streets of San Francisco.

Block?s team somehow managed to close some of San Francisco?s most significant arteries for filming, and took advantage to the city?s many crests - the backdrop of countless film car-chase scenes over the years.

The film closes with Block doing doughnuts on a floating barge in San Francisco Bay, to the tune of Styx? ?Come Sail Away?.

Dark Side of the C 63 AMG Black Series

Mercedes-Benz AMG put together this sinister black-and-white snarl-fest to promote its now sold-out C 63 AMG Black Series.

Watch it, and you?ll wish this particular Black were still in production. (And that you could afford one... - Ed.)

Nissan Altima V8 Supercar First Drive

V8 Supercars Australia demonstrated their Falcon and Commodore ?Car of the Future? prototypes at the end of 2011, but this video released by Nissan Motorsport in November offered a first look at its new racer on the track.

While sharing common chassis and most driveline components with its Ford, Holden, and (yet to be unveiled) Mercedes-Benz AMG counterparts, this video also gave fans their first listen to the Nissan?s unique 2013 Patrol VK56DE-based engine.

Have a look if you haven?t already.

Turn It Up To 11

Here's an honourable mention, released just this month: a new Red Bull Racing clip that looks back on its short but impressive run in Formula 1.

Indian batting prodigy Sachin Tendulkar on Sunday announced his retirement from One Day International cricket, finishing his 23-year-long illustrious ODI career which started back in December 1989.

"I have decided to retire from the one-day format of the game," Tendulkar said in a statement released by the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) today, December 23, 2012.

"I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup winning Indian team [in 2011]," the Mumbai batsman added further.

Since making his ODI debut against Pakistan in December 1989, Tendulkar went on to play 463 matches for his country, amassing a tally of 18426 runs, studded with 96 half centuries and 49 centuries, each of them a world record. His last one-day appearance for India was also against the archrivals,?Pakistan, in Dhaka during the Asia Cup in March this year, where he scored a half century to help his side register a six-wicket win.

The 39-year-old Indian batting legend, who is the world?s top run getter in one-day cricket, said that he was quitting to allow the Indian selectors to build a team for the next 50-over World Cup, to be held in Australia and New Zealand in early 2015.

"The preparatory process to defend the World Cup in 2015 should begin early... I would like to wish the team all the very best for the future," he said.

"Winning the World Cup [in 2011] is the proudest moment of my life. ... I couldn't control my tears of joy," added Tendulkar, who was part of the Indian squad that lifted the coveted trophy at his home ground Wankhede Stadium on April 2 last year.

Tendulkar also thanked his fans for their love and support through out his career, saying, "I am eternally grateful to all my well-wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years."

Whilst the Indian batting legend has announced his retirement from the ODI format, it remains unclear if he would continue to play Test cricket, where he is also the leading run scorer with a tally of 15,645 runs from 194 matches at an average exceeding 54.
